Bio:
Silk Worm (b. 1993, Atlanta, GA, lives and works in San Francisco, CA) keeps busy as a drag queen and performance artist. Her research-based, interdisciplinary practice emerges from eight years of engagement with the Bay Area’s queer nightlife as a drag queen, DJ, and barfly. Drag and its over-the-top performance sensibility are central to her work and its ongoing engagement with gender, sexuality, embodiment, and technology.
Silk has shown her work at Bay Area venues including CounterPulse, Berkeley Art Museum, the Cantor Center for the Arts, / (slash) art, and 2727 California Street and outside the Bay Area at Fierce! Festival (Birmingham, UK), h0L0 (New York City), and the Pittsburgh Performance Art Festival (Pittsburgh, PA). Silk was a 2017 danceWEB Scholar at ImPulsTanz, and she holds a BA and MA from Stanford University.
With Brittany Newell she co-directs HUSH-HUSH, an event series programming experimental work by local queer and trans artists. Silk’s work is a fiscally sponsored project of Jess Curtis / Gravity.
Silk is known as a very good sport.
